The Vein Beneath the Mountain

Eric wants eyes on a sealed vein deep under the mountain. Prove your discipline to Greg, get tooled up by Thomas and Ed, and survey the Deep Cave.

A mining quest that takes you into the Deep Cave for the first time. The reward is a Mithril Pickaxe (or 6 Mithril Ore if you already own a Mithril-or-better pickaxe), 900 Mining XP and 550 Smithing XP.

Requirements: Dig a hole, Mining 14, Smithing 8 and Combat level 16. The Deep Cave entrance itself needs Mining 15, so plan for one extra Mining level.

8× Iron Ore (consumed) Buy from Greg for 28 coins (+1 more shops); Gather: Iron Rock (Mining 1); Drop: Crag Channeler (1/4) and 6 more.
4× Mithril Ore (consumed) Buy from Greg for 140 coins; Gather: Mithril Rock (Mining 1); Drop: Dark Dwarf (49/2000) and 1 more.
1× Silver Bar (consumed) Buy from Thomas for 220 coins; Make it: Smelting (Smithing 14).
4× Silver Ore (consumed) Buy from Greg for 45 coins; Gather: Silver Rock (Mining 10); Drop: Crag Channeler (1/7) and 8 more.
  • For Greg: 8 Iron Ore and 4 Silver Ore (taken). Silver needs Mining 10 and a tier-3 pickaxe; silver rocks are in the Deep Cave and the North Wilderness, and Greg also sells both ores.
  • For Thomas: 2 Iron Bars and 1 Silver Bar (taken).
  • For the survey: 4 Mithril Ore and 3 Gold Ore (taken by Eric), plus 4 Deep Strikes counted by mining (see below).
  • The Deep Cave has Dark Dwarves (combat level 16). Bring food.
